About How To Produce Sales & Make A Website Prosperous Selling Merchandise
This is the hardest of the 3. Basically, it boils down to how much confidence and trust your visitor has in buying from you and your company.
The competition to sell any type of products on the WWW is fierce!
Again, you must have patience! It is probably going to take 1 - 2 years for your website to start making money and become prosperous.
The results we are trying to obtain, are to turn your website visitors into buyers of your products. Your website visitors want to know why they should buy from you and your company versus all the other companies out there that sell the same product or products. What do you and your company have, do or offer that makes you better to buy from or to do business with? The business, personal and product information that is listed {featured} on your website, should increase your visitors confidence and trust in you and your company enough to click on the buy or purchase button.
1 Put your contact information at the bottom of all pages. This includes name of business, street number, street name, {no post office boxes} city, state, zip code, e-mail address and fax and toll free number if you have them.
2 Get a merchant account so you can accept credit cards. You should be able to get one for less than $60.00 per month. A lot of people like using them to make purchases. 75% of my sales are paid with a credit card and 9 out of 10 of my credit card sales, people use either Visa or MasterCard. It is rare that anyone gets denied a Merchant account, the reason being you are not applying for any type of credit. Usually Online Merchant accounts get 2 1/4% - 3% commission on every sale.
Yahoo has their Ecommerce Small Business Merchant Solutions Starter for $39.95 a month. You can create your website with no HTML knowledge. You can accept payments by PayPal at no extra cost. Very few of my orders are paid using PayPal. You can have sales up to $12,000 per month.
You get 20GB's of disc space. A website is made up of text, graphics, sound and video files that take up space on a server. My website takes up a total of 25.7 MB's of disc space. You also get 500 GB's {1/2 a Terabyte} of data transfer {bandwidth} per month. Every time a webpage loads it transfers data. My website uses up an average of 5 GB's of total data transfer {bandwidth} per month. As you can see, 20GB's of disc space and 500 GB's of data transfer {bandwidth} per month are a lot!
For $22.95 per month you can get the Paymentech account that is a merchant account that allows you to accept credit cards, there is another charge involved, the bank that is actually processing your credit card sales! You can choose a different merchant account provider as long as they are compatible with First Data Merchant Services Nashville. You can check out several here, Online Merchant Accounts. It would be $479.40 for the year for the web hosting part.
There is an alternative way of processing orders from your own website other than having your own merchant account, it is by a third party, Third Party Merchant Account Processing. You will have a lot less cost, especially with a new website. There are no monthly fees involved as with having your own merchant account. The only three drawbacks if you could call them drawbacks are, the third party gets a commission fee of 5% - 15% of each one of your sales, most pay {cut you a check} every month or two weeks and of coarse because you are using their merchant account, the transaction will have their company name on the sales instead of yours. You can get information on and check out some here, Third Party Merchant Account Processing Companies. Actually, PayPal is kind of a third party processor. With PayPal, the entity you send the money to via an e-mail address, has to have an account with them.
As stated prior, you should be able to get a merchant account for less than $60.00 per month. That would make a total for both the web hosting and merchant account of approximately $1200.00 per year. So you can see that is not much overhead, for a website, especially if starting a business from your basement, bedroom, unused room of your house, a one or two car garage, or a shed or building on your property.
3 On the Internet, it is wise to have and display a toll free number people can call. It will increase your sales almost immediately! My sales and inquiries increased by 25%, in just the first 6 months after getting one. It gives people more confidence about purchasing from and dealing with you because a lot of times most people associate toll free numbers with buying something or getting information from a business entity.
From experience, a very high percentage of people will not call your business long distance if it is their dime. Most of my calls are to place an order. A lot of people are very apprehensive about using a websites shopping cart, even though it is secured, but will not hesitate to give their personal and credit card information over the phone.
Some people just like speaking to a real live person. Stop and think about it, if you talk to a person, say for 10 minutes, at 7 cents a minute, that is 70 cents. If you only get a $25.00 order, it was worth every penny of it! You will have to shop around, but you should be able to find a plan for a monthly fee of $5.00 per month or less and 5 - 7 cents per minute.
You can set up a voice mail with a toll free number. That way they can leave a message telling you they want to order something and there phone number so you can phone them back to get the order. It is not going to cost you that much money!
My website statistics show that my busiest hours for traffic are from 11 in the morning to 10 at night with the highest between the hours of 1 to 4 in the afternoon. A lot of my calls for orders are from people at work, which indicates a lot of working people are surfing the web during their lunch hours and breaks.
4 Make each description of every one of your products detailed, not just a one liner. List the features of the product and how it will help out or what it will do for the consumer {potential customer}.
5 Make sure your product photos {images} are sharp and were taken fairly close up. Make each of them 300 - 325 pixels wide so the width will be the same throughout the website. I started out with thumbnails for my product photos {images}, and then went to 325 pixels wide and my sales increased with in a week. With 325 pixel wide images, you do not want to feature more than 4 products per page. If you have more than 4 of a particular kind of product, just link the pages using the word Next in a text link.
It sometimes is better to have a couple of different views or an even bigger image of certain products. If so, put them on a separate page and make the image of the product into a link going to it. Name the page, More Information with the product name and number. I did this with some of my products and they started selling better.
Make absolutely sure your website images depict the colors of your products accurately. You want them as close as possible to what the colors actually look like in real life.
It will eliminate later problems with your customers such as complaining or having customers return products because the product colors looked different from what the website portrayed them as. If they do not trust the colors of the products on your website, they probably will not become repeat customers or refer your website to someone else!
6 Price everyone of your products and make sure the prices are big enough to be seen easily. 7 Include free insured shipping and handling with each purchase made in the continental US.
8 Have a privacy policy and security statement and make them easy for visitors to get to it.
9 Have some kind of an unconditional 100% money back guarantee, the longer the time period from the time of purchase the better. Include that shipping and handling will be paid by you to return the piece back to you within that time period. Your customers will believe that you must have a lot of confidence in your products to sport such a powerful guarantee, which in turn gives them a lot of confidence and faith about buying from you.
10 Testimonials are the most powerful advertising, marketing and promoting tool you can use. Just starting, ask your customers to send you testimonials. Set one page up on your website just for them. Name it, your business name testimonials and make it easy for visitors to get to it. When you get a testimonial for a certain product, display it on that products page.
11 Tell a little something about yourself, background and about your business, just so people know there is a human being running the business. The more visitors know about you and your business, the more at ease, confident and trusting they will be about buying from you and your business.
12 At the bottom of each product page explain the purchasing process step by step so even a novice web user can understand how to make a purchase.
You actually do not know who could be looking at or who has looked at your website. I have received numerous e-mails asking me If I would be interested in exhibiting my artworks on other websites, interested in exhibiting in a brick and mortar gallery, brick and mortar retail stores telling me they were interested in selling my pieces, gallery owners and managers, magazine and book editors, TV show producers and even art managers wanting to know if they could represent me.
One last thing, it is wise to get a good website traffic analysis service. It will tell you where your visitors are coming from, the most viewed pages, what pages they came in on, how long they stayed on each page and a whole lot more. Here is the one I use, Web-Stat. The statistics are very interesting and quite helpful. It is great and it gives you a lot of information for only $9.50 per month. It only takes a few minutes to paste the code on your website pages.
You Can Buy & Use For The Money! Only $5.00 - $9.50 Per Month! To Visit, Click Image

that I have been giving advice to about his website. Dear Johnny,
I wanted to sit down and write a quick letter of thanks and praise for your mentoring as well as your relevant and pertinent marketing advice since we started talking nearly a year and a half ago. As you know I was one of those that was suckered into paying some high priced outfit several thousand of my hard earned dollars to start my business and website back in early 2004. As you know from my whining and complaining and the beginnings of self-doubt when I realized what I purchased and what was promised were 2 entirely different things when it came to this company. Little did I know that my luck and education was about to get a lift one weekend while trying to find anyone in this big space willing to: A. Let my brand spanking new out of the box website retail his signature line of pens with all the accompanying documentation or B. Just allow me the break-through of exchanging my first back link with a proven site.
Little did I know that would be the start of friendship with a person that understands what so many other successful entrepreneurs have discovered, that is the creed that once you start on your way to realizing your successes you need to reach down and attempt to help those in whatever way you can to help others realize their dreams.
To this day I know that you are there to help me whether it is during times of doubt or serious questions on a path forward to reach my company's next goal of being one of the successes on the net. You've never mislead me to thinking it would happen without hard work and perseverance. Anytime you have provided me with advice your answers are always based on your own firsthand experience and you never cease to amaze me with your ability to provide targeted accurate steps. Now it would be dishonest of me to pretend I have taken every piece of advice and put it into practice but I can with all certainty say that if I had, my business would be further along the path to my goals. The reason I know this is that whenever I have followed your advice to the letter, the response has been immediate and as predicted to boot. I am convinced that as the New Year passes and my company approaches its 2nd anniversary it wouldn't have happened without your kind and accurate assistance.
Sincerely,
Bob Harter
